Non Metallic Metals: An Introduction.

Howdy guys!

Now, my modeling experience comes from the world of Tabletop Miniatures Games. I've been playing and modeling, mostly modeling mind you, them since the 80s.

Non Metallic Metal as a technique didn't come about until the early 2000's from the competition painters of the era. What I would define Non-Metallic Metal as is the following: Using chromatic paints (yellows, reds, blues, etc) to paint what a metallic surface would look like within the environment the model exists in. Another technique in this realm is Object Source Lighting. I will get to this technique in a future post.

So, in the beginning...

Hey folks! My name is Mike Lee and I work at a hobby shop and am one of the resident experts *HA* in modeling materials and the various modeling tools we sell there. I think if you ask John, the other modeler at our shop, he'd disagree with me completely and then show you a goofy video we shot at the shop to show how much of an "expert" I am ;) Plans I am creating this blog to communicate with our customers ideas and concepts that will help them get better at modeling! I will be documenting and curating techniques here from across the internet so there is a central repository I can point people towards. I will be tagging each post with technique names so you can click to read every post F'rinstance, most of my military customers have no idea what NMM, or Non Metallic Metals, are all about. So, I will be collecting some resources for them to peruse and learn about this fantastic technique! Any Questions? If anyone has any questions about these things, I am more than willing to help out and point you folks in the proper direction! Either leave a note here, or drop me a line at store@waltshobby.com with QUESTION FOR MIKE in the title and I will reach out to you from work! Looking forward to compiling awesome links!
